The
Chicago State University Foundation
will hold its 5th Annual
Arthur Stephens Scholarship 5K Walk-Run (ASSWR) on May 4th from
7:30 a.m. 2:00 p.m. on the CSU campus and surrounding neighborhoods. The annual 5K event is named for Arthur
Stephens who was an invaluable CSU employee and a revered retiree. Proceeds from the Arthur Stephens Scholarship
Walk will help to keep Stephens legacy alive by supporting a scholarship named
in his honor.
The
walk course will center on the CSU Campus/Cordell Reed Student Union Building
and surrounding community. This event
is focused on the benefits of exercise and provides the CSU community an
opportunity to work with and explore relationship building with the surrounding
business and residential community.
Registration is $25 for adults (Aged 18 and above)?$10 for CSU
students, seniors over 65 and children 13 to 17.
Additional activities for the day include warm up exercises, Zumba
fitness, square dance demonstrations and sampling from local vendors.

Chicago State University Foundation
The Chicago State University Foundation was chartered in 1967 and
incorporated in 1968 as an independent, charitable organization with the sole
purpose of soliciting, receiving, and administering private gifts to the
Chicago State University. The Foundation
is a designated 501 (3) organization, and in accordance with the Internal
Revenue Service, all gifts to the Foundation are tax deductible.
About
Arthur Stephens (1922 2009)
Stephens was a long-time CSU employee and active member of the CSU
Presidential Community Volunteers. He was a well-regarded President of the CSU
Chapter of the State University Annuitant Association for more than ten years. Stephens also served as President of the CSU
Learning Center Advisory Board. He was a
member of the Division of Continuing Education Advisory Board, served as editor
of the CSU Yearbook and was an advisor to the Modeling Club and the Baptist
Campus Ministry. CSU students
affectionately called Stephens Campus Dad.
Further distinguished by his trademark cowboy hat, Stephenss valued
exercise and a healthy lifestyle. He was
a faithful walker and excellent square dancer.
