Domestic violence is a pervasive, life-threatening crime that affects millions of individuals across the United States regardless of age, economic status, race, religion or education. One in four women will be the victim of domestic violence during their lifetime. Sadly that violence hit close to home on September 18, 2010 when Jennifer Vaughn Bates was tragically killed by her husband. She left behind two sons, a loving family and countless friends. Using Jenny as an inspiration we have formed No Woman, No Cry; an organization whose mission is to Stop the Silence of Domestic Violence.
On Saturday, September 14th we are holding the 3rd No Woman, No Cry 5K event in Jennys honor. The event will take place in Prince William County at Potomac Senior High School. Last year we had over 250 walkers and raised almost $20,000; half of which was donated to the JVB Memorial Trust Fund for her sons and the remainder to NNEDV to support their efforts to raise awareness and stop the silence of domestic violence.
We are asking that you please consider participating in the 3rd Annual No Woman, No Cry 5K so that together we can work to prevent another person from suffering the same fate as Jenny. Proceeds will benefit the Jenny Vaughn Bates Memorial Trust Fund and the National Network to End Domestic Violence.
