Description
2014 Run Around the Block 15k Road Race:
Late summer afternoon race on beautiful block island.
Must take ferry boat or airplane to get to island.
Highspeed ferry from new london connecticut takes 1 hour & 15 minutes.
Highspeed ferry from point judith rhode island takes 30 minutes (recommended).
Regular ferry from point judith takes 1 hour.Course Info
The Block Island "Run Around The Block" 15K is held at 1:30 in the afternoon so all runners traveling by ferry can arrive on time.
Because of the afternoon start the race can often be hot & humid.
The race course starts less than a tenth of a mile from "Fresh Pond".
The run begins by heading up hill and is a semi 2 loop course that is verry hilly.
Part way through the second loop the course veeres off, and the last half mile is not part of the first loop.
Mile markers are painted on the road.
The last 1/10 mile is down hill to the finish.
The finish line is at Champlins Marina, in New Harbor.Directions
Here is a map to the race staging area where you will pick up your race packet.
The actual race starts about 1/10th of a mile south on Lakeside Drive.

By Ferry Boat:
When you get off the ferry boat, busses will be waiting to take you to the starting line / staging area.
The finish line is about 3 miles from the starting line.
Trucks will transport any geer you don't race with from the start to the finish.
Busses will bring you back to the ferry boats after the race.
The shuttle busses are free.
Ferry boats cost between $25 & $50 round trip depending on which one you take.
If you get sea sick easily it is best to take the high speed ferry from Point Judith RI, as it has the shortest travel time. Other Info
The roadway is marked at 1 mile intervals.
There are 4 water stops on the course.
The mens course record is 45:32 held by Richard Nerukar 1994.
The womens course record is 55:41, held jointly by Janice Cataldo in 1985, & Kim Ginder in 1998.
