Description
RETRO, RUN, or RELAY.
RETRO
Just want to feel the vibe of the music and recreate the perfect summer weekend of a simpler time? At 8 Track, it's easy to do: Start with some great food and beverages as the music gets you fired up. Jump into an adult kickball game and cool off the summer heat with a trip down the slip n slide. Kick back and enjoy the tunes as the sun sets and the bonfire starts roaring. Top it off with a fireworks show that is Dyno-MITE!
RUN
The Hustle, a unique 5k will start your weekend off in the grooviest way possible. Make sure your polyester, afro hair, and white belts are in place as you rock the course! Need a longer route? Challenge yourself to our Half Marathon. You'll be glad you did!
RELAY
Just like hot tubbin', running is sometimes better with a friend! At 8 Track Relay, you can choose from our original 24-hour 8 Track Relay (up to 8 runners per team), our new 12 person team option or our NEW Half Marathon Relay, where 3 runners share the effort of 13.1 miles.
How Does the 8 Track Relay Work?
It's a unique approach to racing! Typically, running relays record time over distance how fast can you get from point A to point B? 8 Track Relay reverses the equation how FAR can your team run in a 24-hour period? And we remove the pressure: race, run or relax each team tailors its own approach. Teams of 8 runners (or less if you choose) run laps around a 4-mile loop. Individual team members may run one or more laps on any given leg. Team members may run in any order throughout the 24-hour relay and that order may change at any time. The "baton", an actual 8-track cassette with a timing chip inside, records each lap. Since the baton is the only thing that is timed, teams are able to determine their own strategy for completing laps. The goal? Run as many laps as you can in a 24-hour period.
Course Info
The course is a 4-mile loop, held entirely on the Portland International Raceway property. The majority of the course is flat, with just a couple of slight rises and descents. Half of the course is paved, the other half is packed gravel (road shoes are appropriate). The route leaves the exchange zone, passes the music stage and bonfire, and runs along tree-lined paths, wildlife preserves and waterways. Look for wildlife and waterfowl as you run on the elevated dike along the Columbia River Slough. Leaving the dike and re-entering the P.I.R. parking areas, you'll hear the beat of the music beckoning you back to the team area. At the end of each lap, runners ascend and descend the stairs of the pedestrian overpass. Each lap is punctuated by a final sprint along the track's drag strip to the Pit Row Exchange Zone.
The exchange zone is a crazy place to be, where the madness and pandemonium of the baton exchange takes place. Hang out in the team area to cheer on your teammates (and competition), and experience one of the most exciting things about the relay experience.
Half Marathon
Runners in the Half Marathon or Half Marathon Relay will use the same course as the 8 Track Relay. Participants running it as a half marathon relay team will each run 3 equal legs of the event. The exchange zones will be clearly marked.
Directions
The 8 Track Relay is held entirely within the confines of the Portland International Raceway, 1940 N. Victory Blvd, Portland, Oregon, USA, Earth. 97217.

THE MUSIC
Some races have a band at the finish. A few races have bands along the course that provide fleeting entertainment. 8 Track Relay has 27 hours of continuous music!
THE EXPERIENCE
Question: What do you do with thousands of cool, active people? Answer: Throw a party!
We have almost 300 acres to fill with fun, and food and beverages are allowed everywhere. When you aren't running, enjoy a variety of activities: Our Slip 'n Slide is all grown up and 200 feet long! The overnight bonfire can be seen from space. We provide free yoga classes throughout the event! Like games? We have all the classics; kickball, capture the flag, soccer, ultimate Frisbee.....maybe even some 'pick-up' Twister?
Remember how cool the 4th of July was with sparklers, Roman candles, and a couple of whistling poppers your uncle set off? 8 Track takes fireworks to a new level! Our display is the same that is used by major cities to culminate their Independence Day festivities and you have front row seats!
Food and drink? Absolutely! Our beer garden policy allows all guests 21 & older to carry their beverage around the venue. Delicious food offerings will be available from a variety of local vendors.
Want to pull an all-nighter? Free camping is included with all entries. Bring the camping gear and hang out all weekend!
Once the muscle soreness subsides, and long after the event is over, we're positive you'll have incredible memories of this unique running and musical experience. Our bet is that you will return again next year for another rockin' good time at the 8 Track Relay & Music Festival.
