Description

The St. Michaels Running Festival, now in its 3rd year, is one of the premier destination races in the Mid-Atlantic. Based in one of the oldest waterfront towns on the Chesapeake, runners will be treated to gorgeous water views, a quick mile past charming main street shops for the 10k and half marathon and a rockin' after-party in downtown St. Michaels. In addition to offering the flattest, fastest USATF half marathon in the region, runners get a generous package including race shirt, finisher medal or pin, complimentary refreshment, handmade finish line treats and so much more.

Prior to the race, come to our expo on Friday for insights from the experts, personalized stride analysis and great SWAG provided by our great sponsors. This event is family friendly so whether you want to set a new PR or come out and take it easy as a family or group, you're sure to have a wonderful time at the 3rd St. Michaels Running Festival!

Course Info

Course Certitfication Certification

The St. Michaels Running Festival half marathon (13.1 miles) is a USATF certified course.

What is course certification?

The purpose of the USATF course certification program is to produce road race courses of accurately measured distances.

For any road running performance to be accepted as a record or be nationally ranked, it must be run on a USATF-certified course. In addition, the certification program is very important to the average road racer, as well as those of exceptional speed. Most runners like to compare performances run on different courses, and such comparisons are difficult if course distances are not reliable. No one can truly establish a personal best if the course distance is not accurate.

You have to experience for yourself the flattest certified half marathon in the mid-Atlantic region. With an elevation that averages between 8 and 10 feet (with its highest peak at 16 feet) and only a few turns to negotiate, you are certain to enjoy the scenic views and serene setting while cruising along our course.

Youll start out at the St. Michaels school campus and head right down the center of historic and charming main street. After leaving town, the course traverses around a beautiful golf course community on gently winding roads. The half heads down Tilghman Island Road lined with farms and wooded lots before heading back to St. Michaels. Once in St. Michaels you take a few of the only turns on the route to the rails to trails paved path where the 13.1 miles finishes on the scenic nature path. The 10K runs the Mount Pleasant Landing Road loop passing a couple of handfuls of luxurious homes with plenty of water views as you run. Heading back to town you turn onto the rails to trail path where youll cross the finish line bringing your 6.2 miles to a conclusion.

After winding through Rio Vistas roads youll make your way down to Riverview Terrace where you run for almost a mile along the Miles River. The run on Riverview is lined with spectacular views of the Miles River and beautiful waterfront homes.
