Description

Come to the biggest snowshoe event in Minnesota!

Snowshoers come from around the country to participate in this fun and challenging winter race. The Twin Cities Snowshoe Shuffle (TCSS) is a regional qualifier for the US Snowshoe Association's 2014 Dion National Snowshoe Championship race, and the 3rd largest United States Snowshoe Association Regional Qualifying Race in the US!

***Registration-8 a.m., race start-10 a.m.

***REGISTER ONLINE TODAY!

There are 4 courses: a 5K and a 10K track set up for the racers, a 5k dog walk, and a "fun run" course set up for the kids! Awards are given to the top 3 men and women finishers in each of 7 age categories, which are listed on the registration form. The race will be officially timed. (The race is also part of the Braveheart Series, a free series that allows racers to earn points and win free prizes.)

Not that serious? This event is fun for people of all ages and abilities. Walking or running with snowshoes is a fun and healthy activity. The TCSS is a great opportunity to get outside with your friends or family!

Proceeds from the 2013 TCSS are used to provide scholarships for children to attend Camp Bovey, East Side Neighborhood Services summer camp where urban youth learn to respect themselves, one another, and the environment.

Following the Race/Walk, a post-event warm up chili lunch will be served at East Side Neighborhood House (1700 2nd St. NE, Minneapolis, MN 55413). Awards and prizes for participants and a silent auction to raise funds for Camp Bovey, East Side's summer outdoor leadership camp, will also be held at the lunch.

The Twin Cities Snowshoe Shuffle honors the memory of Joe Holewa, event co-founder and a lifelong snowshoer up to age 87.

RETURNING THIS YEAR:
Canines for Camp - 5K Dog Walk - Since the Twin Cities Snowshoe Shuffle's inception, we have noticed an increasing turnout of racers with dogs. Racers will still be able to run or walk in the snowshoe race with their dogs, but we created a sub-event for dog lovers that is less competitive and more relaxing, but still a great way to get exercise for owners and dogs during the cold winter months. Each participant will receive a gift bag with dog items as well as a race shirt.

REGISTRATION:
$35 entry fee, $40 after January 17th, ($20 for students aged 13-23) and $25 for the dog walk allows you to participate and includes an event shirt and chili lunch after the race. Snowshoes will be available for rental. Register on Active.com.

RACER BIB PICK-UP:
Before the race: Avoid race-day lines and check-in early! You can get your race number and confirm shoe rental. Pick up is on Friday, January 31 from 5-7 at East Side Neighborhood Services.

ON RACE DAY:
The race starts at 10:00am, but bib pick-up starts at 8:00am. We encourage you to arrive early to give yourself plenty of time to pick up your race number (and snowshoes if you are renting) and stretch and warm up before the race.

LODGING:
For out-of-town racers, we have reserved a block of rooms at the Homewood Suites by Hilton. The hotel is offering a special rate and is located less than a mile from the race. Contact the hotel at (651) 631-8002 for details.

POST-EVENT ACTIVITIES: SILENT AUCTION & CHILI LUNCHEON
The Silent Auction will be displayed for auctioning at the East Side Neighborhood House (1700 2nd St. NE. Minneapolis, MN 55413) Chili Luncheon, following the snowshoe race. All proceeds from the silent auction will benefit children with financial needs to attend Camp Bovey, the summer resident camp of East Side Neighborhood Services, where urban youth learn to respect themselves, one another, and the environment.
To donate items to our silent auction, please contact Greg Ritter, (612) 787-4019 or [email protected]

Racing For a Great Community Cause

All proceeds from the race and silent auction will benefit Camp Bovey, East Side Neighborhood Services Summer Youth Camp, located in Gordon, Wisconsin.  Camp Bovey provides outdoor living and leadership development for children ages eight to 14 - where urban youth learn to respect themselves, one another, and the environment. Each entrant will assist in raising funds to provide camperships for children and youth to attend Camp Bovey.

Course Info

Long Lake Regional Park in New Brighton, Minnesota

New Brighton, home of Long Lake Regional Park, is almost exactly halfway between the equator and the north pole, with a latitude of 45 degrees. Consisting of 217 acres with two bodies of water, the park includes 1.5 miles of shoreline on Long Lake and a natural area around Rush Lake.

In warmer weather, patrons can seek out the natural areas of the park featuring cattail marshes, 200 year old Bur oak woods and a 9 acre restored prairie.  Even remnants of old farmsteads can be found at Long Lake park and where lilacs and rose bushes can be found in the middle of the woods.

New Brighton's terrain was sculpted by the last glacial period.  We're told that Long Lake is glacier leftovers, simply an ice chunk left behind, and when melted, created the lake.  Locals are only among the few in the state who can say that if you get a drink of Long Lake water, you are drinking straight from the glacier.

So we have a great place, both historic in beauty and modern in trail design for our Snowshoe Shuffle. Register at Active.com.
