Ludington Lakestride Half Marathon, 10K and 5K ~ Results

Packet Pick-up Late, Registration and Final Registration; We've moved! There will be a large tent located in the center of Stearns Park Beach right next to the finish line. This venue will serve as Lakestride Race Central. Stearns Beach Park is a focal point in Ludington, where so many people gather for a number of activities. This is the city's largest beach, with 2,500 feet of sandy shoreline and plenty of FREE parking. Here you can swim, build a sand castle, and enjoy the view of the Ludington North Breakwater Light or watch Badger Car Ferry as it enters or leaves port. The half-mile walk out to the light is popular among couples, families, and fishermen. Beach patrol officers are on duty from 11am-8pm. Friday June 13, 5-8PM Lakestride Race Central at the center of Stearns Park Beach. Saturday June 14, 7-8AM Lakestride Race Central at the center of Stearns Park Beach.

Awards

Awards to the top 3 males/females of the age group. 5k and 10K awards will be given out at the finish line following the conclusion of the race. 1/2 marathon awards will be given at approximately 11:00AM All runners who finish will receive a finisher's medal specific to the race entered. Top three overall in each event will also receive a beautiful finisher plaque with scenes of Ludington taken by professional photographer Rob Alway.

Spaghetti Dinner

Dinner will be served at Lakestride Race Central located in the center of Stearns Park Beach. Meals on Wheels will be hosting the event as a fundraising event. Proceeds from dinner will help the organization continue to feed the physically challenged and elderly shut-ins of Mason County. We say thank you in advance.

The half marathon course is beautiful, Ive run it a number of times.  Runners start on Lake Shore Drive, near the city beach, go north towards the Ludington State Park, peel off to the right at Piney Ridge Road, about the 2.5 mile mark.  

Runners in the 2010 Lakestride Half Marathon turn on Piney Ridge Road at the 3.5 mile mark.

Continue on the tree covered winding road that puts you between the Lake Michigan dunes and Hamlin Lake.  Leave Piney Ridge Road at about the 4 mile mark and enjoy a 1.8 mile trail run through a very beautiful mature forest full of oak, beech nut, birch and maple.  This section of the course is really fun; its like being on a roller coaster.  Its full of short ups and downs that allow you to maintain pace with little effort, you feel like you are flying, its fast but passing must be done carefully.  Once clear of the woods, you run down a small dune cross over a dam, run through the State Park and turn south running along the Lake Michigan Shore line on Lakeshore Drive for about 6 miles. Running along the shoreline on pavement is awesome; the view of the lake is something you will want to take in. The course is basically flat. The trail is the exception and theres one spot at about the eleven mile mark where it pays to be in shape. Its a gentle incline stretched out over about 7-800 meters. If you stay focused you can maintain pace. After that its flat and fast to the finish located at the city beach. Enjoy a Popsicle, kick off your shoes, stroll down to the water and cool off in Lake Michigan.  How does it get any better than that? Most of the runners bring the family and spend the day on the beach swimming, tanning or playing volleyball. Downtown Ludington is walking distance from the beach.
