Description

The River Towns Marathon has been designed to link three beautiful central Pennsylvania river towns – Danville, Catawissa and Bloomsburg – along the North Branch Susquehanna River.  Participants will start the race in Danville’s historic West Market Street neighborhood, near the Montour County courthouse.  From there, full marathoners travel out of Danville along River Road/Legion Road – a tree-lined, shaded road – to Catawissa, then via trails and back roads to Bloomsburg.  At Bloom, we’ll turn around and return along the same course to the Montour County courthouse and the Spring Fling festival.

The River Towns Half Marathon is an "out and back" race along River Road to the Montour County/Columbia County line, then return to Danville.
Course Info

Both courses are out and back layouts, but the full Marathon connects multiple towns.

WHAT THIS RACE IS NOT:

This marathon is not for everyone.  This course has a 1.45 mile long section of trail running (2.90 miles total when considering the course goes out and back) that is a level dirt road and a grass covered canal tow path.  This includes a bridge crossing that has a stone surface.  We also run on the grass covered Danville levee on the way back into Danville. These sections are safe and (in the opinion of most runners) fun and interesting to run, but if these surfaces upset you in any way, you might want to further investigate the course before registering.

- The race IS NOT a Boston qualifier at this time.  This is a future consideration.

Some portions of the course have limited vehicular traffic.  Though every effort is made to ensure the safety of racers, organizers expect participants to stay on the shoulder of the road as if they were in a training run (running into traffic).
