Strathmere Beach & Ocean Challenge (5K Beach Run, Ocean Kayak & Stand Up Paddle Race)

• 5K:- Run 3.1 Miles
• 1 Mile:- Run 1 Mile

Come enjoy a unique event in a unique shore town.  Come for the 5K Road/Beach race, and stay to learn about, or compete in Ocean Kayaking and Stand-Up Paddleboarding.  The 5k run will go off at 8AM, with awards given for the top 3 male and female finishers, the top finishers for various age groups and to our top clydesdale runner.  The Ocean Kayak and Stand-Up Paddleboard Races/demonstrations and lessons will be going on all day (finals usually conclude around 3pm).  The competitions will have various categories.  For a complete list, please visit our website, www.utbp.us.  If you do not have your own kayak, equipment will be provided for both instruction and racing events.

5K Run/1mile Health Walk: On site registration begins at 7am, closes at 7:45.  Race begins at 8 AM

OCEAN KAYAK/Stand Up Paddle (SUP) Race Registration from 9-11.  The preliminary Races begin at 11:15 am with finals should conclude about 3pm.

The 5k Course starts on the Beach Patrol Headquarters on Williams Ave.  The first 1/2 mile is on the street, and loops back past the BP Headquarters, onto the beach.  Competitors will race about 1.3 miles south on the beach, and then turn around to finish on the beach in front of the beach patrol headquarters.

The Kayak/Stand-Up Paddleboard Races will procede in heats of 6 competitors at a time.  The top 3 from each heat will advance.  Semi-finals and finals will be held after all preliminary races have finished.  The races begin on the sand.  Racers will Kayak/Paddle out to a flag approximately 300 meters into the ocean.  They will then turn the flag and finish oh the beach.

The Open Kayak/Stand-Up Paddleboard race begins on the sand.  Competitors will complete a 'triangle' of flags and then finish back on the beach.  The course is approximately 3/4 mile.
