Join us on Sunday, January 18, 2015 for a race event unlike any other in Maine! Get out of the cold and head indoors: no ice underfoot, no frigid gusts in your face, and no snow overhead. Yes, you will be running in circles (25 times, in fact!). And yes, you will have to jockey for position amidst other runners. But you can enjoy the music, the comaraderie, and the unique running experience -- all a part of Indoor Insanity!
Exposure to radon causes lung cancer: it is the second leading cause of lung cancer nation-wide, and the number one cause of lung cancer in non-smokers. High levels of radon gas move up through Maine soil and and water, and can move up through a home from the ground. 1/3 of the homes in Maine have high radon (above the EPA recommended action level.) Learn more about radon.
Indoor Insanity registration fees and additional donations will be used to fix radon problems in low-income households in Maine. The Maine Indoor Air Quality Council will be working with the Maine State Radon Section and MaineHousing to identify these households, and will work with registered Maine mitigators to install the systems. Depending on the amount raised through Indoor Insanity, we hope to help 1-5 needy families lower their risk of lung cancer from exposure to high radon levels in their home.
