Description
Braveheart 5/10K is an annually held race set up and run by Utah State University students. It's purpose is to raise funds for a family with a child in need of medical assistance. Registration is $15 and includes a bib number, t-shirt, and raffle ticket. 100 percent of our proceeds are donated. This year's cause is baby Jadee.
Little Jadee was born at 35 weeks at just 3 pounds, 9 ounces. Her mother was life-flighted to the University of Utah and after four days of attempting to delay labor, a code blue sent her into delivery.
Baby Jadee has undergone one heart surgery already and will need another one when she reaches 12 pounds. She was born with duodenal atresia, a condition where the stomach is closed off from the intestines, requiring a surgery days after delivery just to eat. Until recently, she has required a tube to eat, and still has difficulties ingesting anything through a bottle.
When the stomach surgery was performed, the doctors removed her appendix because her intestinal tract is not oriented properly, putting it on the wrong side of her body. In addition, her trachea is only 40% of the size it should be. This will require her doctors to perform a rare surgery where they will take cartilage from her rib cage to enlarge it. This combined with a condition known as “Pig Bronchitis” which is a missarrangement of her lungs and airways, has led to problems with pneumonia and bronchitis.
Jadee’s parents live in Logan. They rarely go more than a week or two without having to take her to an appointment at Primary Children’s Hospital. She currently has nine specialists there, as well as a pediatrician and three in-home intervention specialists.

Course Info
This race begins and ends at the West side of the Taggart Student Center. The course follows Utah State University's on-campus 5K running route. A map of the route can be found at: https://www.facebook.com/braveheartfifthannual/timeline
Directions
Utah State University campus is on the North side and directly adjacent to U.S. Highway 89 going through Logan canyon. Turn onto campus at N1500 E and make an immediate turn west onto Aggie Blvd. Head west until you get to the intersection of Aggie Blvd. and Lars Hansen Dr. (800 E. 700 N.) Turning left on this intersection will take you to the starting point of the race. Parking will be in the Terrace on the South side of Aggie Blvd. Volunteers will assist you in finding parking spaces upon your arrival.
PREVIOUS RESULTS
- Last year's race (Braveheart 4) succeeded in raising over $4000 for our cause (Rustin).
- Braveheart 3 raised a substantial amount for little Melanie
