Fairfax Friends Forever is an inclusive social skills club started at Westbriar Elementary School in Vienna, Virginia and has expanded to several elementary schools across Fairfax County. The program offers unique opportunities for both students with disabilities and general education students through a peer mentor system. Under the guidance of teacher coordinators, sixth grade students gain experience coordinating and implementing weekly activities to foster relationships and create friendships among all students at our school. We are very proud of our program and all that it has done to nurture the safe and welcoming culture here at Westbriar.
Fairfax Friends Forever is holding its Annual 5K Run and 1 Mile Fun Walk at Westbriar Elementary to raise awareness for people with disabilities. Each year, we choose a different charity to raise awareness for and to promote. This year, in honor of the students at our school with Autism Spectrum Disorder, the proceeds will be given to Autism Speaks.
This event is open to all Westbriar students, families, faculty, and any interested community members. Snacks and water will be available at the conclusion of the run-walk. We will race rain or shine!
**ALL students must be accompanied by a parent or babysitter of at least 18 years of age. Parents/guardians/babysitters do need to register**
To help make this event successful, we need volunteers to help set up, clean up, and help manage the course during the race. If you're able to help out, please sign up using the link below! http://tinyurl.com/kcr4t9h
