Pull out your running shoes because Easter Seals of LaSalle and Bureau Counties’ annual 5K Run/Walk for the Kids will kick off during Ottawa’s Riverfest festivities(www.ottawariverfest.org) , Saturday Aug. 1.

The 5K Run/Walk for the Kids starts and ends at Ottawa Township High School, 211 East Main St., Ottawa. Check in and race day registration begins at 7 a.m., runners start at 8:30 a.m. The run/walk follows a USA Track and Field certified course, winding through the historic east side of Ottawa including the scenic Illinois and Michigan Canal passage.  Ninety-nine percent of all money raised at this event remains local, helping local children to achieve their maximum potential.

Runners will be timed and the top overall female and male runners will receive trophies. Also, runners placing 1st, 2nd or 3rd in thirteen different age categories will receive medals.
