The Darth Dash 5K & 0.5K Detour

• 5K:- Run 3.1 Miles

The community of Lewistown, Illinois lost one of its most well-known and beloved youths, Darth Winkler, when he was tragically killed in a car accident on September 2, 2015 in Hayward, WI. Darth was a 2011 graduate of LCHS, where he was a linebacker and offensive lineman for the Lewistown Indians, as well as being a star track athlete. He received numerous awards throughout his athletic career in high school, such as being named to the 2010 All State Football Team and being chosen as the 2010 Journal Star Small School Football Player of the Year. Darth continued that success throughout his four years at Beloit College, excelling in both football and track up to his graduation in May 2015.

Darth was known throughout the area as being a fierce competitor in both football and track. But it wasn't his amazing athletic ability that defined Darth; it was his love and dedication to his friends and family. It was his ability to inspire others to succeed and to offer words of encouragement whenever needed. It was his drive, determination and hard work that he put into everything that he did. It was his ability to be a role model to the young and old alike. It was his willingness to help others. It was the compassion and care that he showed to others. It was the respectful and polite manner in which he spoke. It was his ever present infectious, dimpled smile. And it was in his love for life.

Darth loved having fun and that’s exactly what this race and day is all about. This event is being created to raise money for a scholarship fund in Darth Winkler’s name that will be presented to Lewistown High School graduate(s) for years to come.

Event details and schedule

The 5K Dash and The 0.5K Detour will both begin at the Lewistown Central School Parking Lot. Both races will end at the V.F.W.

  8:30 a.m. -  Day of Race Registration
10:00 a.m. -  5k Dash start time
10:10 a.m. -  0.5k Detour start time (The Detour is for those that want to participate but just really don’t do 5Ks)

Pre-Registration Entry Fee: $25 (T-Shirt Included)

After March 1st Entry Fee:   $30 (T-Shirt Included)

Those who pre-register will be guaranteed a t-shirt on race day. Early registration is advised!!

Online registration will end on April 8, 2016 at 8:00 p.m.

No refunds. The race will be held rain or shine.

Packet pick-up will be Friday, April 15, 2016 at the Lewistown V.F.W. from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Awards will be given as follows:

1st Place Overall for 5K - Male & Female

1st, 2nd, 3rd Place for Age Groups - Male & Female

Age Groups: 19 & Under; 20-34 yrs; 35-49 yrs; and 50 & Older

Events to be held after the race at the Lewistown VFW:
10:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m. – Food (Pork Chop Sandwich, Slaw & Chips $5/Hot Dog & Chips $3)

10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. – Silent Auction in Pavilion

Noon – Music Begins

Noon – Bags Tournament & Shuffle Board Tournament

All Day: “Triple D” Trifecta (3 Shots with a SURPRISE inside) - $15. If you finish the contents of all three shots, you will get an exclusive shirt. CAN YOU DO IT LIKE DARTH?
