Description

Event:  2nd Annual Fast & Furriest – Fit and Fun:  On Sunday, April 10, 2016, Operation Paws for Homes will be hosting its second annual Fast and Furriest Event at Monocacy Village Park in Frederick, Maryland.  Our 2015 event attracted over 500 participants and raised over $13,000 for our organization.  We anticipate doubling that participation with our 2016 event.  The event is expanding to include three sessions of options including:  10K or 5K Run, 5K walk, yoga, basketball, ultimate Frisbee, BANG! Power Dance and cross fit workouts for adults and children.

Dedication:  We are excited and proud to be dedicating this event to Anthony M. Capobianco and his family.  At the age of three, Anthony was diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy and became wheelchair-bound at the age of 12.  Anthony was an inspiration to all who knew him.  He was compassionate, brave, kind, patient, honest and loyal.  He loved and appreciated life and lived it with passion each day.  He found great joy in simple every day things and lived his life with faith, courage and a peaceful heart, never complaining and always smiling and laughing.  Anthony loved all animals, especially dogs.  Dogs touched his heart deeply, and he cared for them tenderly and with love.  He couldn't stand the thought of a dog being hungry, abused or without a good loving home.  He would save his money from birthdays and holidays to make a donation each year, in hopes the money would bring some happiness to a dog in need.  Anthony passed away in March, 2015, at the young age of 36.  We know Anthony would be thrilled and amazed to know this event will keep his dream alive to help many dogs by providing safe environments and happy forever homes.

About OPH:  Operation Paws for Homes (OPH) is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization, federal ID number 45-2785962.  You will receive a tax receipt for your records and, if requested, a copy of our tax exemption letter from the IRS.  OPH is an all-breed dog rescue serving Maryland, DC, Virginia and southern central Pennsylvania consisting of a network of volunteers and foster homes.  We do not have a facility nor do we receive funding from local, state or federal sources.  We partner with high-kill shelters in the south in an effort to save as many dogs that, by no fault of their own, end up in the shelter waiting for someone to take them home.  Many do not make it out of the shelter.

OPH&US Armed Forces-Partnership-Nowzad Animal Shelter, Kabul, Afghanistan:  http://www.nowzad.com/about/our-animal-shelter/ Nowzad Animal Shelter located just outside of Kabul, protects up to 100 stray and abandoned dogs in and around Kabul.  The shelter’s purpose is to support soldiers on the front lines by rescuing the companion animals they adopt during their tour of duty.  We are proud to be a partner with Nowzad.

OPH&US Armed Forces-Partnership-Semper K-9:  http://www.semperk9.org/ matches rescue dogs with wounded, critically-ill and injured members of the U.S. Armed Forces and their families.  Semper K9 adopts dogs from local rescue organizations to give them a special chance to be the best friend and companion to a needy service member.  We are proud that Semper K9 considers our adoptable dogs for this tremendous opportunity.

Pricing:  $25.00 per participant through January 31, 2016.  Price increases to $30.00 per participant at 12:01 am, February 1, 2016.

You can bring YOUR dog to this event - please be sure your dog is leashed and well-behaved.  No retractible leashes please.

OPH volunteers look forward to seeing you there.
