Description

The Friends of the Lake 5K Road Race & Walk is a charitable event to support the recreation opportunities of Lake Junaluska through the Friends of the Lake program.  100 percent of the proceeds for this event go to the annual maintenance and improvement of the recreation areas at Lake Junaluska which annually costs over $250,000.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

When is the race?
Saturday, March 26, 2016 
5K Road Race (9:00 a.m.); 5K Walk (9:05 a.m.); half-mile Kids Fun Run for kids ages 10 and under (10:00 a.m.)

Do I need to pre-register?
We would prefer as many advance registrations as possible; however you will be able to register the day of the race.By pre-registering, you will receive a lower entry fee.If you register by March 11, you will receive a t-shirt.

Can I register the day of the race?
Yes.Race day registration will be open from 7:30-8:30 a.m. at the Nanci Weldon Open Air Gym.

How much is the registration fee?
If you register on or before March 11, the fee is $25.From March 12-26, the fee is $30.For students ages 11-18, the fee is $15 no matter the date.Children 10 and under are free.

How can I pay for the registration fee?
You can pay the registration fee by cash, check or credit card.If paying by check, make it payable to Lake Junaluska Assembly.

Is there a fee for the Kids Fun Run?
No.The Kids Fun Run is free to children ages 10 and under.The fun run will take place in the grass lot adjacent to the gym and it will begin at 10:00 a.m.

Will I receive a t-shirt?
T-shirts will be given to those who register for the 5K & Walk by March 11.

Will the course be marked?
Yes.The course for the 5K & Walk will be the same course and it will be marked with chalk, cones, etc.You will begin and end at the Nanci Weldon Open Air Gym.Most of the course will follow the walking path around the Lake.

Will there be awards for the winners?
Yes.Awards will be given to the top three male and female winners in each age category.Those categories are broken down into approximately 5-year ranges (see registration form for specific age groups).

Can I bring my dog?
No.For everyone’s safety, we ask that you please do not bring your dog.

Can I bring a stroller for my child?
Strollers will be allowed during the Walk ONLY.For the safety of those running, we ask that you please do not bring strollers for the 5K run.

Can I bring my bicycle?
No.For everyone’s safety, we ask that you please do not bring your bicycle.

What is the registration fee being used for?
