The Twilight 5K Run, Walk & Roll and Post-Race Party is the largest CARA (Chicago Area Runners Association) certified 5K race in the Chicago-land area serving competitive and recreational runners and athletes with disabilites. The purpose of this event is to provide exposure to the Great Lakes Adaptive Sports Association and an opportunity for athletes who have physical disabilities or visual impairments to embrace the GLASA motto of "Let No One Sit on the Sidelines". The proceeds from this event will help GLASA provide year-round, daily adaptive sports programming and financial assistance for over 63% of GLASA athletes, assist with funding of athlete scholarships and to expand outreach to surrounding communities, such as Waukegan and North Chicago.
The start and finish of the race is the Gorton Community Center, with the race winding through the streets of Lake Forest. Multiple divisions include age group awards for runners, teams, as well as for manual wheelchairs, racing chairs and hand cycles, ambulatory, amputee and the visiaully impaired. Attendance at the 2015 race reached over 400 with additional friends, family members and supporters attending the post-race party.
