Learning the Trails: A FREE Ten Week Course to Make You a Better Trail Runner
Tripping over roots and rocks? Struggling on hills? Lost your shoe in the mud? This might be the class for you.
Learning The Trails will cover:
· Why run trails?
· Choosing a trail and trail safety
· Necessary gear
· Rocks, Roots, Logs, Mud, and other obstacles
· Hills. Climbing and descending
· Trail running with groups and races
· Trail etiquette
This course is designed to improve your trail running and help keep you safe. The first five weeks will begin with a half hour of lecture and discussion followed by short group runs. The runs will pause at different obstacles and challenges to discuss the proper way to successfully navigate them. Weeks six through ten will consist of trail runs with limited discussion. Participants should be able to run a 5k without stopping.
Classes will be instructed by Doug Miller. He started out by running road races before discovering a love of trails. He is well known among local trail running groups and is always willing to help other runners on the trail. He is looking forward to helping others discover the fun and challenge of trail running.
Classes will be held on Mondays at Mendon Ponds Park or Durand Eastman Park. Be ready to run at 6:15 pm, regardless of weather. Please leave your earphones at home.
