Description

Big Pond Blue Moon is a midnight prediction run. The winner is the first person to cross the finish line AFTER MIDNIGHT. The course will open after moonrise at 10:20 p.m. Runners will decide when to start based upon how long they estimate it will take them to run the 6K course. No watches or timing devices allowed.

How it works: The winner of this run will be the first person to cross the finish line AFTER MIDNIGHT.
The course will open after moon rise, 10:20 p.m., and the runners will decide at what time they would like to start running, based upon their prediction as to how long it will take them to complete the 6K (3.8 mile) course.

Example: If you thought it would take you 30 minutes to run the course, you would start the race at 11:30 p.m. or when the countdown clock says -30 minutes til midnight.

To be fair: NO WATCHES OR TIMING DEVICES will be allowed. (this includes moon dials). Runners will be chip timed.

Course Safety: From the map above, it should be apparent that this run is in the middle of nowhere. IT WILL BE DARK! If it is overcast, it will be REALLY, REALLY DARK! The course is 90% dirt, township roads and will not have street lighting. Reflective gear is highly recommended, as well as head lamps or flashlights. At midnight, the blue moon will be at 99% luminosity and turning off your lights to enjoy the serenity is o.k., but be careful. Also, you may think you hear werewolves in the dark but it's most likely Mr. Robbins' goats. (maybe not!)

Course Description: From the Lake Ondawa Pavilion the course runs West on North Lake Road for 1.2 miles. You will take a left onto Simcoe Road and head South for 0.9 miles. You will take the first left onto Cheney Road and take it to it's end (1.4 miles) and hang another left onto Big Pond Road. You will then run approximately 200 yards and take the left back onto North Lake Road and head back to the start/finish line 0.3 miles away. The majority of the course will be on dirt, township roads and will consist mainly of rolling hills. If it was flat, it would be too easy to predict!
