Join the Ugandan Water Project for their 7th annual 5K Run/Walk at Powder Mills Park’s Rand Lodge in Pittsford, NY. This fundraising event supports the mission of the Ugandan Water Project to partner with US sponsors in bringing safe, accessible drinking water to communities in the East African nation of Uganda. UWP hopes to raise over $25,000 at this year’s run, helping to expand UWP’s solution set and effectiveness. This early road race includes live music, great food & refreshments, and handmade Ugandan jewelry and crafts as well as RF chip bib timing and a race t-shirt for runners.
Open to the public, runners can choose either to register and run, or to be sponsored runner and raise funds, waiving the race fee and becoming eligible to win top fundraising prizes. Prizes this year include a quadcopter drone, an Amazon Fire 7” tablet, and a hydration running belt. Participants can also run as part of a sponsored team, with the top fundraising team earning bragging rights and a year to display the UWP 5K handcrafted trophy made by Ugandan artist Collins Alinaitwe, UWP’s Project Manager.
The Ugandan Water Project is locally based in Bloomfield, NY. Started in 2008, UWP’s goal is to implement relational solutions that help Ugandans pull themselves out of poverty in a sustainable way so they can live the lives they were created for. The organization’s solution set includes rainwater collection systems, borehole rehabilitation, and point-of-use filtration. Currently, 276 projects have been funded, bringing clean water to over 114,000 Ugandans.
