This is the sixth event of Hawaiian Ultra Running Team 2016 Trail Series. The Maunawili Out-n-Back is a trail run on primarily single-track and jeep road starting from the Nuuanu-Pali lookout, going to the trailhead in Waimanalo, and returning on the same route. It can be run solo for the full 22 miles or as a 2-person relay, with the handoff being at the turn-around point. The run start is staggered based on a handicap system which takes into account the runner's age and gender. The trail travels in and out of valleys along the Koolau mountain range; it is normally very hot, humid, and muddy with rolling hills and frequent stream bed crossings. Aid is provided only at the 11-mile turnaround point, so carrying fluids and supplies is mandatory. There is a post-race gathering to refuel and share stories at the windy and sometimes cool Pali lookout.
Each race this year fall on a Saturday.
