The Friends of the St. Joseph Animal Shelter is holding our 3rd Annual Run/Walk for the Paws 5K on Saturday, April 8th at 9AM. This event is dog-friendly, so we greatly encourage you to bring your dog(s) to join you for the race. This event is a great way for all ages in the community to get involved in physical activity while bringing awareness to the St. Joseph Animal Shelter and supporting our beloved shelter pets!

Registration Fee and other registration information:
$25 early registration fee (register by March 20th)
$30 late registration fee (after March 20th)
*Register by March 20th, 2016 to be guaranteed your t-shirt and swagbag
*Those that register prior to day of race can pick up registration packets on Friday, April 7th from 4-7PM at the St. Joseph Rec Center (2701 Southwest Parkway, St Joseph, MO 64507) or on the day of the race*
Race Day Schedule
8:00-10:30am: Local pet-related businesses/organizations booths as well as a kid’s activity booth will be open
8:00-8:50am – Late registration and packet pick-up which includes timing chip bib, t-shirt, swagbag and other fun freebies (cannot guarantee these items to participants that register after March 20th)
9:00am – 5K Walk/Run begins!
10:00-10:30am – Awards
Awards
Awards for first, second and third place for male and female participants in the following age groups will be given: 11 and under, 12 -15; 16-19; 20-29; 30-39; 40-49; 50-59; 60+. Awards for first, second and third place dog finishers will be given as well!
Friends of the Animal Shelter of St Joseph
The Friends of the Animal Shelter of St. Joseph, Inc. is a non-profit organization comprised of volunteers whose common bond is a genuine concern for animal welfare. Our group's mission is to help increase animal adoption and redemption rates at the St. Joseph Animal Shelter, educating our community regarding animal care and welfare issues, and helping to care for the medical needs of all sick and injured animals that come through the animal shelter. The work we do is solely funded by private donations and the devotion of our volunteers; 100% of all fundraising efforts and donations go toward helping the animals at the St. Joseph Animal Shelter. All registration fees and donations for this 5K will go towards paying for medical care of sick and injured animals down at the shelter, incentives to increase adoption rates at the animal shelter, and maintaining and repairing shelter equipment to keep the shelter animals comfortable and healthy or to continue the vision to improve our community through the building of a new animal shelter in St. Joseph.

Race Info
Location
The race will start in the parking lot across the street from Bode Ice Arena, 2500 Southwest Parkway, St Joseph, MO 64503.
Parking
Parking will be available in the Phil Welch Stadium parking lots.
Dog-Friendly
This event is dog-friendly, so we greatly encourage you to bring your dog(s) to join you for the race, provided they are friendly with people and other dogs and are have updated rabies vaccinations. Local pet-related businesses/organization will have booths for participants to browse and there will also be a kid’s activity booth.
Chip Timing
The race will be chip timed by RaceDay Timing Solutions with an official blow up start/finish line. The timing chip is disposable and comes attached to the back of each participant's bib number. Please pin your bib number to the front of your attire.
Course
The race course is handicap accessible and relatively flat, but does have a few areas of slight uphill incline (1-2%). Participants will run/walk from the parking lot across from Bode Ice Arena along the scenic Southwest Parkway trail to Bartlett Park, then turn around at Bartlett Park and make their way back to Bode Ice Arena along the Southwest Parkway. There will be water, coffee, granola bars and bananas at the start/finish area. Volunteers will also be handing out water to participants along the course during the race.
