The Susan G. Komen Detroit Race for the Cure is an educational 5k run/walk event that provides awareness and funds for education, screening, treatment and research for breast cancer. One in eight women in her lifetime will be diagnosed with some form of breast cancer. In the United States, every three minutes a woman is diagnosed with breast cancer, including 2,800 this year in Michigan. Since 1992, the Susan G. Komen Detroit Race for the Cure has led the charge in the fight against breast cancer in metro Detroit. As we approach our 26th annual Race, we have raised and invested more than $29 million in the fight. We seek to continue this fight and reduce the impact of this disease throughout our service area of Wayne, Oakland and Macomb counties, and through breast cancer research around the world.
The start and finish of the 5k will be just outside of Comerica Park. We will held south to Gratiot Avenue where we'll head east before entering the Dequindre Cut. The route continues south on the cut exiting at Lafayette. From there participants will begin to head back toward Comerica Park where they will finish.
