The Run for the Melon 5K and 10K Walk/ Run is located on the Otter Trail Scenic Byway in Vining, Minnesota. The race course takes the participant through the rural Otter Tail County countryside with rolling hills, lakes and fields of fresh cut alfalfa and grain fields as a back drop.
The race kicks off the 46th Annual Watermelon Day in Vining, the "Biggest Small Town Celebration in Otter Tail County." The race begins and concludes at the intersection of State Highway 210 and 457th Avenue. The course is all asphalt, with the entire race course meandering through the scenic countryside. The race is supported by water drink stations throughout the course at the 1.0; 2.5; 5 kilometer markers and at the finish line. There is ample space for parking and portable toilets are available. The race participant enjoys all the chilled sliced watermelon and water at the finish line they can eat and drink.
Run for the Melon is a proud sponsor of Teams Beads of Courage. Beads of Courage "CarryABead" kits will be available for a $10.00 donation at the race tent. CarryABead and tell a story.
