The History

After Lauren Beam passed away in September 2011, Lauren’s fan club of supporters (Team Beam), spontaneously organized an informal run in Central Park as a way to keep her unbelievable spirit and sheer determination alive.  This annual run was born from that day, and represents something Lauren loved to do – run – as well as something that helps the human spirit defy the effects of cancer and fighting it.

The 2017 Lauren Beam Foundation 5K River Run is our fourth annual race, and we are excited to continue the tradition of celebrating Lauren Beam’s life and raising money for young men and women battling cancer. 
   

Event details and schedule

DATE - Sunday, April 2, 2017 @ 9:00 am

RACE LOCATION - Wagner Park Plaza at the southern tip of Battery Park City (Next to Pier A off Little West Street and Battery Place)

SUBWAY - 4/5 to Bowling Green, R or 1 to Whitehall Street/South Ferry or J/Z to Broad Street or R line to Rector Street.
Walk west until you pass Historic Battery Park and enter Battery Park City.

NUMBER AND RACE PACKET PICK UP - There will be race-day pickup from 7:30 am to 8:30 am AT THE START LINE in Wagner Park Plaza.

COURSE INFORMATION - Race starts and finishes in Wagner Park Plaza, which is just north of Historic Battery Park. The whole race is on the riverfront pedestrian area of Battery Park City, so while it will be hard to go wrong, we promise there will be signage and volunteers along the whole route to help you.

SPECTATORS - Spectators can watch the race anywhere along the race route in Battery Park City.  The start and finish lines are at Wagner Park Plaza, just next to Pier A.

RULES AND REGULATIONS - To satisfy insurance requirements, no head phones, skates, strollers (including running strollers), or animals are permitted in the run. Please stay within running course boundaries at all times. Failure to do so may result in disqualification. Race bibs must be fully visible at all times, and we recommend you attach it to your torso. The Lauren Beam Foundation reserves the right to refuse entry and/or to disqualify any individual from our 5KM run. This disqualification may be based on, but is not limited to: violation of the aforementioned rules; unsportsmanlike conduct; running with an unofficial number/race entry; competing with a race bib assigned to another individual; crossing the finish line without having completed the entire course; and providing false information on the race entry form.  The Lauren Beam Foundation reserves the right to change the details of the race.
