Register today for the Catch Me If You Can 5K, 5K Team (Father/Son, Father/Daughter, Mother/Son, Mother/Daughter) and Kids K. This one of a kind event is a great way to start your summer. Located in the beautiful Sandia Lakes community near Albuquerque and Bernalillo, Catch Me If You Can follows the dirt roads and paths through the scenic Rio Grande Bosque. Age Group and Overall Awards as well as chip timing. Immediately after you cross the finish line, bait your line and head to the lake near fish and try your luck! Catch a fish and be eligible for fantastic prizes. Oh, yeah, don't forget your fishing rods! Refreshments and barbecue immediately after you finish. Register today and don't miss the fun!

FACILITY: RunFit has reserved a special area (North Lake) for this event: 7:00 A.M. TO 11:00 A.M. If you would like to continue to stay at Sandia Lakes after the event, you must stop by the Sandia Lakes Store near entry to receive an entry to the lakes. Please respect all rules and posted signs located throughout Sandia Lakes. No pets are allowed on Sandia Lakes Property, with the exception of service animals. The possession and use of firearms is prohibited. No fireworks allowed. No open fires allowed. No swimming or wading is permitted.



PARKING:

Note: Please use parking spaces located at Sandia Lakes. DO NOT PARK on roadways or pedestrian paths.

 

 

START:

Sandia Lakes:

5K and 5K Team: 8:30 a.m.

Kids K: 9:30 a.m.

 

This race is a Gun Start with a Timing Chip finish. The "official time" will start when the gun/horn goes off. All timing chips will be available at the registration area near start/finish located near the North Lake just north of the entrance to Sandia Lakes. Note: Timing chip must be zip-tied or laced to shoe.


 

 

 

Bathroom Facilities:

Bathrooms are located near start/finish. Please allow plenty of time in order to get to the start.

Race (Bib) Number Requirements

Each participant will receive a Race (Bib) number that must be worn on race day. DO NOT alter your race number in any way. Your bib number must be visible and worn on the front outside of all clothing during the entire race so that it may be clearly seen. Bib numbers are non-transferable and MUST be worn by the runner to whom it is assigned.

 

Medical Support:

Medical staff members will be ready to assist you at any time.
The event officials have the right to withdraw any runner from the race that appears in distress or at risk. If you have a health or medical problem at the Finish Line, please notify event officials or volunteers. Please cooperate if you are asked to go for a checkup. If you feel that you need help at any point, please ask for it!

If you are unable to finish the race for any reason, please notify a race official of your bib number so that the medical personnel are aware.

 

Finish Information:

When you cross the finish line you will be greeted by volunteers who will assist you with Timing Chip removal. Please make sure you land on the first set of timing maps (do not jump over…) as well as the next set of timing maps. Note: ALL CHIPS MUST BE RETURNED AT THE FINISH.
The overall and division award winners will be announced at the Awards Ceremony on race day immediately following the Kids K.


5K:

Overall prizes will be awarded to the top three men and women determined by gun time.
Age group prizes will be given to the top three finishers in the following categories for men and women: 9 and Under, 10-12, 13-15, 16-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70+.

Award times will be determined by gun time. Note: Team members are factored into the 5K Open and are eligible for age group and overall awards.

 

5K Team:

Overall: First three.

 

Kids K

All registered participants (10 and under) are eligible to participate in the Kids K. The start of the Kids K will begin at 8:30 a.m. All participants will receive a special finisher medal upon completion of the event

 

Fishing Contest:

Try your luck at catching a fish. The Sandia Lakes is well stocked with catfish and trout. Be one of the first 3 to catch a fish or first 3 teams to each catch a fish. Note: Please bring a fishing rod to fish. Note: There is a 2 finish limit per participant. ONLY PARTICPANTS MAY FISH. However, all others are eligible to purchase a fishing permit at the Sandia Lakes Store located near entry to Sandia Lakes.

  1. $12 for a 3 fish limit   B. $15 for a 4 fish limit. C. $20 for a 5 fish limit.

 

 

 

 

Start Information

All races will start promptly at the designated times. Allow plenty of time to get to the Start Line in order to check any gear such as your fishing rod and seed yourself. If you are driving to the race plan to arrive early. See parking information above.
This race is a Gun Start with a Timing Chip finish. The "official time" will start when the gun goes off. All participants who want to be timed as well as being factored into the results MUST wear a timing chip (see “RESULTS” information below).

Please note: Should severe weather that creates dangerous conditions for runners cause cancellation of the race there will be no refunds.

 

 

Race (Bib) Number Requirements

Each participant will receive a Race (Bib) number that must be worn on race day. DO NOT alter your race number in any way. Your bib number must be visible and worn on the front outside of all clothing during the entire race so that it may be clearly seen. Bib numbers are non-transferable and MUST be worn by the runner to whom it is assigned.

Can I run with iPod/headphones?
Yes. USATF, the national governing body of the sport, recently amended its ban on headphones, iPods and similar devices. However, athletes competing for prize money are not allowed to use electronic devices such as headphones and ear pieces.

Can I run with my Garmin GPS or my Nike Plus device?
Yes, participants may wear their Garmin GPS watches and/or Nike Plus devices. However, these items do not count as “second timing devices" and will not be recognized by the event as official times or distances.

What is NOT allowed on the course?
The use of video devices, cell phones, computers, cameras or any similar devices by participants in the event is prohibited. The use of wheeled devices by participants or any other person authorized to be on the course shall be strictly limited to: (a) authorized and registered competitive wheelchair participants; and (b) authorized course marshals on bicycles. Skateboards, rollerblades, unauthorized bicycles or any other wheeled device will not be permitted.
Please note: Strollers and baby joggers are permitted in the 5K and Kids K only. Strollers and baby joggers must start at the back of the pack and your child must be secured in the stroller at all times. Note: Do to the dirt roads and small gravel, traditional baby strollers may be difficult to navigate.

Do you have a Lost & Found in case I lose something at the Event or on the race course?
Yes. We will have a Lost & Found for items that were lost and found on race day. If you are missing a personal item, please call: 505.217.4774.

I am injured and/or cannot run the event (family commitment, work obligation, etc.). Can I get a refund, donate my entry or transfer my entry to someone else?
No. Sale and/or transfer of race entry/bib are strictly prohibited and will result in the disqualification and/or banning of any individuals involved from future events. All entry fees are non-refundable and cannot be deferred toward a future event.

If I provide medical documentation of my injury or pregnancy, will you give me a refund?
No. Please refer to our official event rules and guidelines.

Can I defer my entry to the next year if I am unable to run this year?
No, participants cannot defer their entries to the next year in the event that they are unable to run. 

Inclement Weather Policy:

Weather forecasts will be monitored prior to the event paying special attention to the possibility of heavy rain, thunder and lightning, high winds and extreme temperatures. If necessary, athletes will be made aware of these predictions on the RunFit website: www.irunfit.org so that participants can properly prepare for severe weather during the race as well as possible course alterations. Severe weather updates will also be sent to participants via email as necessary.

The Race Director will monitor the weather and make a decision if any action will be taken to modify the race. Possible changes include: altering the start time for the race or in extreme situations, cancellation of the event. Please listen closely to all public address announcements at the starting line of the race. Visible lightning will cause the race to be postponed for a minimum of 15 minutes. Additional sightings will continue to delay the race in 15 minute increments. If extreme heat is predicted, extra water will be provided to the athletes, both prior to, during and after the event. The medical team will be alerted that athletes may require additional medical attention during and after the event due to the high temperatures.

Results:
Timing of the event will be done using the ChampionChip Timing System. Participants must wear a Timing Chip on their shoe in order to receive final results. If you own your own Chip, please provide your Chip number at the time you register (Seven Alpha Numeric Characters). Efforts will be made to post unofficial results at the finish line within 15 minutes of each participant finishing the race. Results will be posted near the finish immediately during and after the event as well as online at www.irunfit.org or www.active.com. Participants who would like their official time posted and be included in the results MUST wear a timing chip. Timing chip MUST be picked up at the event so please arrive early and on time to get to the start. The timing chip MUST be secured to your shoe (only) using the zip ties (provided) or shoelaces. No timing chips will be given to Kids K participant since this is a non-timed event. All timing chips must be returned immediately after you cross the finish line. Volunteers will be ready to clip your chip as you finish. You are responsible (see “waiver”) for the safe return of the loaner/timing chip. You will be charged $30 for the failure to do so. Please note: Awards will be presented immediately after each event. All awards must be picked up on the day of the event. No awards will be mailed.
