ABOUT THE RACE

The Leiper’s Fork Heroes in Recovery 6K  is the original 6K event and a unique run/walk presented by Foundations Recovery Network.

Foundations Recovery Network’s mission is to be the leader in evidence-based, integrated treatment for co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders through clinical services, education and research. The Heroes in Recovery movement started because according to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), 20 million people needed substance abuse treatment last year and did not receive it. About 10 million Americans did not receive needed mental healthcare. The stigma associated with substance abuse and mental health disorders creates a significant barrier to individuals and families seeking help.  It takes a heroic effort to live clean and sober each day, and a Heroes 6K celebrates that effort. The sixth kilometer separates a Heroes race from a typical 5K to symbolize the extra effort it takes to sustain recovery. The six kilometers also represent the six letters in the word HEROES. These races inspire communities to support recovery and also to live healthy, active lifestyles.

• Race Day Registration: $40 (September 9, 2017)
• Wag & Run – Get a bandana for canine participant: $5 (through September 9, 2017)
• Virtual Participant: $25 (through September 6th)
  • If you can’t join us in Leiper’s Fork, TN for the Heroes in Recovery 6K, run/walk 6 kilometers virtually! Please complete your 6K run/walk by the end of the week following our Leiper’s Fork, TN Heroes in Recovery 6K. Email us a selfie of your participation and we’ll mail your swag the following week! Please send emails to [email protected] and include your preferred mailing address and which 6K location you’re virtually supporting! Unless you specify otherwise, we may feature your photo on our social media pages.

*We are unable to provide refunds or transfers to another participant, but we can change your registration to a virtual runner (no difference in cost will be refunded for change).

Race Course

6K (3.728 mile) out-and-back course starting and finishing near downtown Leiper’s Fork. The course starts on Floyd Road (just off Old Hillsboro Rd) and turns around at Bailey Road.

Awards

You may only qualify to win in one category and must be present to receive your award.

Overall Male and Female Winners

First Place – $200
Second Place – $150
Third Place – $100
“Almost Podium” Fourth Place – $50

*If you are 40+ years old and are the fourth overall person to cross the finish line – you will be placed as the Overall “Almost Podium” Fourth Place winner.

Overall Masters Male and Female Winners

First Place – $100
Second Place – $75
Third Place – $50
“Almost Podium” Fourth Place – $25

Kid’s Activities :
After race participants cross the start line, kid’s activities will begin. Family friendly fun such as caricaturing drawing and face painting can be found in the festival area, and several kid’s only contests will be hosted by the announcer! Contests will range from hula hooping, to ring toss, to a super fun dance-off! Games vary by location; all are free and open to the public!
