No matter what the weather brings ThorpeWood's 5K/10K walk or run has proven over the last 9 years to be a favorite as a family event and a challenge to the more serious trail runner. So here we are celebrating our 10th Annual Trail Run...the only thing missing is you. As described by past years' participants, this run has something for everyone.
The run begins on the horse farm, passing by a 120 year old barn and silo, around a spring-fed pond (site of a wonderful overnight cottage), into the forest adjacent to a 200 year old family cemetary, around our Icelandic horse pasture, and back into the woods, down Mink Farm Road to our timber-framed Lodge (venue for many events: weddings, corportate, non-profits, etc.), along Bussard Branch to a 50 year old one room log cabin, up a steep switch-back to our cord-wood shed and garden, looping back to the horse farm and finish for the 5K participants. The 10K runners continue by going on another totally separate 5K and into the woods again, this time going through a oak, hickory, poplar forest with a thick understory of ferns, and continuing up a long gradual hill relief comes when returning to the horse farm to music and cheers and fruit and beers.
All proceeds from this event benefit Frederick County Head Start and YMCA youth programs.
