_ 2018 Washington Heights Salsa, Blues & Shamrocks 5K Run:
Upper Manhattan's diverse and picturesque Washington Heights neighborhood provides the backdrop for this 5K. On a hilly course that circles Fort Tryon Park and the historic Cloisters, runners are serenaded by musical groups playing—you guessed it—salsa, blues, and Irish folk music, plus gospel, merengue, and jazz!
Net proceeds from the 2018 NYRR Washington Heights Salsa, Blues, and Shamrocks 5K will directly benefit The Armory Foundation.
Mile 1: Start at West 173rd Street—five blocks north of the New Balance Track & Field Center at the Armory—and head north (and uphill) on Fort Washington Avenue. Run under the George Washington Bridge at 178th Street and continue uphill, then downhill, then uphill again.
Mile 2: Enter Fort Tryon Park and run a counter-clockwise loop of Margaret Corbin Road over rolling hills.
Mile 3: Exit the park just past the two-mile mark and retrace your steps back down Fort Washington Avenue to the finish near 170th Street.
Spirits were as high as the hills that more than 5,000 runners climbed and descended at today's NYRR Washington Heights Salsa, Blues, and Shamrocks 5K. Held in the Washington Heights neighborhood of northern Manhattan, this 3.1-miler is an annual celebration of the coming of the spring racing season for athletes of all ages and abilities.
