Description

The 5k Race for DIPG takes place on a predominantly tree-lined scenic, point-to-point course in February when morning temperatures are predicted to be in the comfortable mid-70s. This family fun race starts in the center of it all, on the Circle in Miami Springs, where you can find the Clune-Stadnik Building, a Pueblo Revival structure that was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1985 (built in 1925). This run/walk will head to the downtown area of Westward Drive before turning SW onto North Esplanade, along the canal (watch out for those ducklings!), after which runners/walkers will go past a few of the beautiful homes on Deer Run and then move onto the walking/jogging path that encircles the Miami Springs Golf Course. This path takes you all the way behind The Glenn H. Curtiss Mansion and Gardens, another historic structure in Miami Springs that will be hosting a traveling Smithsonian exhibit on race day. After leaving the Mansion area, the path goes West on Fairway Drive, turns North on Eldron Drive, and then rejoins the walking/jogging path alongside the golf course. Once back at Deer Run, the last stretch will take you down the median of Curtiss Parkway, ending at the Circle where water and light refreshments will be available for all participants.

After the race you are encouraged to stay around and enjoy the Miami Springs Virginia Gardens Optimist BBQ (11am-8pm on the Circle), with live music, a bounce house for the kids, plus delicious food (and beer) to enjoy! Or you can shop at the Miami Springs Farmers Market that opens at 10am while waiting for the BBQ to get started.

All proceeds from this race will benefit The ChadTough Foundation.  ChadTough and the Michael Mosier Defeat DIPG Foundation are partnering to fund six Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG)-specific research projects totaling more than $1 million over the next two years (2018-19).  These grants will be awarded to scientists conducting research at prominent institutions across the country: Duke University, University of Florida, Harvard University/Boston Children's Hospital, Harvard University/Dana Farber Cancer Institute, Northwestern University and Stanford University.
