_ The 2018 Tree Church 5K:

Please join us for our 5th Annual Tree Church Project 5K Run / Walk and help us to support building permanent churches in Kenya for communities who worship under trees or in other temporary locations. Northern Kenya, where the Anglican Diocese of Marsabit is located, is a predominately Muslim area. As the Church has grown, these first generation Christians only have trees or outcroppings of rocks under which to worship. In 2014 Christ Church constructed a church building for the Samburu people in the Game Community of Marsabit. This community used to worship under an Acacia tree which was in danger of being washed away by a seasonal river. In 2015, we built a Church for the Boran people in the Elebor community, which had used an outcropping of a rock under which to hold their church services. In 2016 the funds raised went to build another permanent Church for the Gabra people of Maikona in the Chalbi Desert in Northern Kenya. Last year the 2017 funds raised went to build a church in Goro Rukesa for Christians who were cramming into a parishioner's small home. In 2018 we are raising funds to set up a structure to help our new brothers and sisters in Christ sustain their ministries and spread the love of the greater body of Christ.

The Tree Church 5K Trail Run/Walk is being held at Charleston County’s Laurel Hill Park in Mount Pleasant on Saturday morning, March 3, 2018.  Funds raised in 2018 will help build a Guest House run by the Diocese of Marsabit to generate income to support ministers working in Children's and Men's Ministries where we have built churches, thus continuing our tradition of building the Church to make disciples. 

Registration is only $30 and $18 for youth under 18; sponsorship levels begin at only $300. Prizes for overall and age group winners.
