Each year, the 10K Road Race gets the Market Square Day celebration off on the right foot. With a starting line in the heart of Downtown Portsmouth, the Race typically draws 2,000 runners who wind their way through the streets of Portsmouth ending with the finish line at historic Strawbery Banke. In 2005, we joined forces with five other area races to create the Seacoast Road Race Series. From May through November, runners participate in races ranging in distance from 5K – 10K in communities throughout the Seacoast. The Series creates healthy (literally) competition and serves to introduce runners to a variety of races. The Series expanded to eight races in 2008 and continues its popular ‘run’ with new and seasoned athletes. In 2009 a ‘bonus race’, the Seacoast Half Marathon, was added to the Series giving runners the ability to truly challenge their endurance.

Our 10K course begins and ends in two of Portsmouth's most historic areas. The Market Square Day Festival affords us the opportunity to close most major Downtown streets. As a result, our start line is in the heart of our City, Market Square. In one of the areas most breathtaking race scenes, nearly 2,000 runners and walkers make their way down Congress Street lined with festive booths and cheering crowds. The course winds its way around town giving participants a unique look at our City and, in particular, the people who embrace this race. Don't be surprised to see neighborhood breakfast parties along the route! Our finish line on Marcy Street takes runners and walkers onto Puddle Dock and the grounds of the Strawbery Banke Museum for hospitality and awards.
