Every third Saturday in October, the New River Gorge Bridge is closed in celebration of Bridge Day, West Virginia’s largest one day festival. Active Southern West Virginia is pleased to host the annual Active SWV Bridge Day 5K every morning of Bridge Day. The Active Southern West Virginia Bridge Day 5K is the only race to go across the New River Gorge Bridge!
Make sure your race number is on the front of your shirt and very visible. Listen for the music and join the group in a start line dance party.
We do our best to keep this close to a 5K distance, but with a point to point course there could be a slight variation in distance. This course is on open streets. WVU Technical College student volunteers will be stationed throughout the course to assist racers. Yard signs with arrow and “Active Southern WV” will be placed throughout the course along with chalk on the road. It’s an easy drive to scout the route if you get into town Friday evening. Headphones are discouraged.
Historic Fayette County Courthouse 9:40AM-10:15AM
The giant red arch will display the finish line on Court Street (Rt 16) between City Hall and the County Courthouse. Racers need to pass over the chip pad for time to register. This race includes a finisher medal and top finisher medals in these age groups: 0-12, 13-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70+ for Male AND Female.
The plan will be to do awards at the finish line. If the weather becomes windy, rainy, or cool we will move the awards to Memorial Building. Announcements will be made at the finish line if moving to the Memorial Building.
Please stay as you finish to cheer in all the racers and for a group photo on the Court House steps. Racer times will be posted within 48 hours with Appalachian Timing Group and repeatedly shared throughout the Active SWV communication channels.
