YOUR DONATION: One run sponsors one orphan for one month, your donation feed, house and educate one orphan for an entire month. All registered runners will receive a T-shirt*

THE ORPHANAGE:Every six seconds a child in Africa looses a parent to AIDS. In Kenya one out of every 69 live births results in the death of a mother. There are so many children who are missing one or both parents that Kenyas strong tribal communities cannot find homes for them all.

Our orphanage began when the community began bringing children to Momma Hannah, and asking her to take them in. Momma Hannah is the widow wife of a Lutheran Pastor and once she took in her first child word spread, and one became five, five became forty-five and eventually Mwangaza was born out of the need to support this small orphanage.

Course Info

THE TRIAL: The first mile of the route begins on the paved multi-purpose track which is a very fast flat surface that is wide open to the park. Around 1 mile, the track moves onto soft terrain which runs parallel to the river, a beautiful run. Mile 2 is all soft terrain, though the track narrows most of the path is still fairly flat, the track is hard packed dirt, however there are places with a few roots or rocks. A little before the 2 mile mark, there is a short area of small hills and unlevel ground. Mile 3 exits the soft terrain and repeats the multi-purpose track, in the reverse direction, until the finish line. Total evaluation change throughout the run is 177 feet.

TIMING: 5K Kenya is a Fun run/ Walk. There will be a clock to start and finish, but no official timing will be conducted. Times will not be reported and rankings will not be given. The run/walk is to support our children in Kenya, please feel free to time yourself!

WHO CAN RUN: All are welcome to register and run/walk. This route provides a nice multi-terrain cross country style run; all hills are very small and easily do-able. The track is an easy walk for any healthy individual and most children will do great as well. Due to the varying width and surface of the terrain, strollers are not recommended.
