My name is Katie Hall, I lost my leg in a car accident when I was 16. Before the accident I was very active, joining my church on mission trips, playing softball, soccer and running every afternoon after school. Since the accident it has been a dream of mine to run again. I literally dream of running and playing sports. I have attempted, with the assistance of physical therapy and personal training, to raise my endurance to be able to run. However, I have not been successful because my prosthetic leg has not been fitted or is equipped for running. Not to mention, the cost of a running leg is not covered by my insurance and the cost can be in excess of $15,000.
I dream of the day I'm able to run down the streets of downtown Mobile, with the confidence I once had before my accident. I'd love to participate in runs and marathons. I'd love to be another amputee's inspiration to "get up and get moving". I've never thought of myself as having a disability, I've always thought I can do anything anyone else can do. I just may have to do it differently. With a new running leg I feel like I can realize my dream of running again and inspire others at the same time. To help with the costs associated with the purchase of a new prosthetic leg, my friends and I have organized a fun run 5k fundraiser at Cottage Hill Park on Oct. 25th. Registration starts at 7:15AM, fun run starts at 8AM and the 5k follows at 8:30AM. All of the proceeds will go towards the purchase of a prosthetic leg made specifically for running. Thanks for helping Fund My Run!
