Description
Hawai‘i Island’s oldest foot race, Keoua Honaunau Canoe Club’s “Mac-A-Thon,” takes place annually the day before Easter. This year’s fun-filled family event will be held on Saturday, April 4. The race start is at 7:00 a.m. The Mac-A-Thon offers distances of 5K or 10K on the old government road that extends from the sacred waters of Honaunau Bay to Napo‘opo‘o. Each race course is the same, except that the 5K turn-around is halfway into the 10K course. An award ceremony, our famous Mac-Nut Pancake Breakfast (included with entry fee), entertainment, a Super Silent Auction with dozens of items, and lots of Easter-themed fun await runners and their families at the finish line.
Directions
Take Hwy. 11 to Hwy. 160 junction (Kona Coffee House and Café is on the mauka side of the intersection), turn makai on Hwy 160, continue approximately 3 miles, and turn left at the Pu’uhonua O Honaunau National Park sign. Turn right just before entering the park and proceed to the Keoua Halau, where check-in and late registration will take place. Parking is very limited at Honaunau Bay, so plan to park along the highway and walk to the check-in/late registration area.
