The Run Above the Clouds is a benefit for the students of Woody Gap School, the smallest public school in Georgia. Every year The Run Above the Clouds awards scholarships to graduating seniors and to postgraduates of Woody Gap to encourage them to continue their education

At 2800 feet, The Run Above the Clouds is Georgia’s highest-altitude (and perhaps its most scenic) 10K, featuring “The Cooper Gap Climb,” a 230-foot elevation change over a one-mile stretch. This year we're adding a companion 5K race.

The course for the runs goes by Woody Lake on Highway 60, then turns onto Cooper Gap Road at about the 3/4-mile mark. The turnaround for the 10K is in the small community of Mt. Airy. 

Start time is 9 AM for the 10K and 5K, 9:10 for the 1-mile fun run.
Water stations are provided at three points on the 10K course.

Bears have been known to come out and spectate along the course...

Entry fees are $20 for the 10K, if we receive your application by Wed. Oct. 1. Race-day registration for the 10K is $30. We encourage everyone to print theentry form and mail it in advance. The 1-mile fun run is $10, on or before race day.
T-shirts and awards: All registered 10K runners are guaranteed a high-quality, long-sleeved T-shirt. Age groups are 19 and under, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, and 70 and over. Awards are two deep for male and female in each group and top male and female overall.
