One Last Race - 5k for Racehorse Retirement

One Last Race was founded to provide charitable funding to approved 501(c)(3) not-profit Thoroughbred rescue and rehabilitation organizations.  We are in the process of organizing a 5k run to raise money to help pay for the rescue, rehabilitation, retraining and retirement of former racehorses through donating the proceeds of the event to the selected charities on our site.

At the moment, we are looking toward organizing an email list of persons who would be interested in running in the 5k race or walking in the post-race, "Road to Retirement."  The event is scheduled to take place on June 18, 2016  at 2:00 p.m. on the historic racetrack located at the Dupage County Forest Preserve in Wheaton, Ilinois.  As the event draws closer, we will email the interested participants detailed information for the event. 

Further, we are trying to assemble sponsors and volunteers for the event.  If you would be interested in sponsorship or volunteering, please submit a direct email to [email protected] or join our email list for our newsletter.  We also welcome private donors as sponsor and will recognize all sponsors on our website and at the event.

All donations will be divided equally among the selected charities - After the Finish Line, Illinois Equine Humane Center and Galloping Out. 

It is our belief that, a the end of their career, an old or injured racehorse shouldn’t have to run “One Last Race” because retirement efforts have failed.  Through our retirement funding efforts, we run it for them.

The race is scheduled to be run on the historic turf racetrack at the Danada Forest Preserve.  If weather conditions prevent a safe run on the grass, we will move the race to the surrounding nature trails on the date of the event.
