This is not a timed event. It is a celebration of a life well lived.

The Cameron Fitzwater Memorial Scholarship Foundation has zero administrative fees and raises all the money needed for the costs prior to the event ALLOWING ALL PARTICIPANT FEES GO DIRECTLY TO THE SCHOLARSHIP.

Mission and Purpose

The Cameron Fitzwater Memorial Scholarship was created to celebrate the life of Cameron Taylor Fitzwater by allowing Cameron’s life and aspirations to live on by helping others pursue their dreams of higher education. The Cameron Fitzwater Memorial Scholarship Foundation is about tragedy, triumph, and community spirit.

The Scholarship awards four (4) one-thousand dollar ($1,000) scholarships to selected applicants from each graduating class who have been accepted into a 2/4 year College/University or Technical School. The applicants must have participated in one or more of the activities that Cameron was dedicated to and involved in; Boy Scouts, Choir, Drama, MACC Academic Team, Track, Wrestling and/or Young Life.

Cameron’s Story

“God put me here to find more about who He is through me. I intend to search my soul for him…no matter how long it takes. I will live always, whether in flesh or spirit. I will always endeavor to live life to the fullest.” ~ Cameron Fitzwater

On a rainy Wednesday afternoon, April 4, 2012, Cameron was headed to work at Panera Bread after school as he had done so many times before. Cameron known for living his life to its fullest hydroplaned and tragically died in a single vehicle accident. Cameron was only 18; just two months shy of graduation with plans to attend WVU in the fall.

Cameron was extremely active in school and in the community. He was Captain of the Wrestling Team, Captain of the Math MACC Academic Team, participated in Choir, Drama, Track, Young Life, and Boy Scouts where he was an accomplished Eagle Scout. In addition to attending Pulaski County High School, he also attended the Southwest Virginia Governor's School for Math and Science.

Cameron loved his town and volunteered as often as he could. He grew up volunteering with the local Habitat for Humanity helping in the office, fundraising, and with the construction of Habitat houses. He volunteered cutting fallen trees and removing the debris out of the roadways the night the tornado hit Pulaski in 2011. Cameron continued his volunteer efforts with Samaritan’s Purse in the days following. As a Boy Scout, he was involved in numerous service projects throughout the community, Camp Ottari and Camp Powhatan Boy Scout Camps. Wherever he could help, he was there.

Friends, teachers, and community leaders describe Cameron as “talented”, “gifted”, “a natural leader”, “a smile that lit up our lives”, “an outgoing, fun-loving student who stood up for others,” “he captured the spirit of all people, where their passions were…people that didn't know him directly still knew of him because he was full of life, full of zeal, enthusiasm".

Cameron touched so many lives in his short time here on earth and he continues to touch lives today though the good works he left behind and the legacy he left in the hearts of all who knew him. He is remembered for his adventurous spirit, his sense of humor, his ability to turn any situation into a good one, and his contagious smile. He inspired others to love God, appreciate nature, live big, dream big, embrace their fears, and to never give up.

Cameron wrote; “Kindle the fire within yourself. Use its light to stay the path. No matter how hard it gets stay ever cheerful.” This is how Cameron lived his life each day.

What to Wear?

Wear your whitest white t-shirt and pants/shorts. You might want to bring a towel or a change of clothes for the ride home. Costumes are encouraged and welcome!

What is the color made of?

The color is non-toxic FDA approved coloring and cornstarch.

How to I preserve the Color in my shirt?

No guarantee…but you might try spraying your shirt with vinegar, let dry then iron it. How do I wash the color off? We recommend washing with Dawn Dish Soap. It may take a few washes but it does come off!
