Event Information

The 2016 Refuge Run will take place in Atlanta Georgia on Saturday, April 16th at 8:30 a.m. and will host participants who will start at 1300 Joseph E. Boone Blvd, NW in Atlanta, Georgia and run through a historic neighborhood highlighting both blight and restoration on a relatively flat Peachtree Road Race certified course. This “road to transformation” represents the path that our families travel when they come to City of Refuge. Each kilometer of the race represents a vital program at City of Refuge. 

Featured Programs

The five featured programs in the race all experienced great milestones in 2015 are positioned to achieve great success in 2016
 

K1: NAPA Auto Training Center

Napa Auto Training Center provides all full service auto mechanic training program to up to 20 hard to employ individuals per class. At the end of the course, the graduates are guaranteed a position within a Napa auto center. Many of the students are United States Veterans. Over the next few months, City of Refuge will kick off the 100 car campaign. Donated cars will be repaired by the Napa Auto Training Center and donated to many of our residents who are seeking employment but have a transportation barrier.
 

K2: Eden Village

Eden Village provided 1,028 homeless women and children with a safe place to live, nutritious meals, daycare, job training and skills to gain independence. Seven hundred and twenty women exited the program and 683 moved to a positive living situation. The New Beginnings job training program served 48 women and 296 women attended personal finance classes.
 

K3: 180° Kitchen

180° Kitchen served 217,553 hot and healthy meals, trained 25 culinary students who graduated with ServSafe accreditation. This job training program has a 100% rate of placing graduating students in jobs with local restaurants to help jumpstart their career.
 

K4: Youth Programs

Level Up and CORe: Level Up youth program served 52 High School students with mentoring and opportunities to earn college scholarships and an SAT prep course was added to the program. CORe provided afterschool programming to 130 Elementary and Middle school students and partnered with Georgia State University to provide education and recreation.
 

K5: Kindred Spirits

Kindred Spirits opened 12 bedrooms for pregnant teenagers who lack support from their biological home and need a safe place to live and prepare for their babies birth. The teens are surrounded by staff members and volunteers who provide mentoring and validation. They reside in Kindred Spirits during their pregnancy and for up to a year after they deliver. Currently this program houses 6 teens and 3 infants.

8:30 a.m. – 5K Refuge Run Begins
9:30 a.m. – Post Race Celebration and Awards
