Description

The Sgt. Joshua D. Desforges Walk/Run Challenge is a race inspired by the life of Sgt. Desforges, a United States Marine that was killed in combat in Afghanistan in May 2010.  Josh chased his dream to become a Marine and every day, "lived life full throttle."  This is not your average 5K.   This event is better described as a 3+ mile road and trail run with a twist of Marine Corps inspired obstacles and challenges sure to test your mettle.  At the finish line you will be dirty, tired, and sore, but you will have earned it and paid tribute to a fallen Marine.

100% of the proceeds of this event go directly into the Sgt. Joshua D. Desforges Award fund.  The award is very unique in that it isn't awarded for athletics, academics, or even for a student who is planning to join the military.  The award is given to a student of Ludlow High school who is planning to follow their dream, just like Josh did when he joined the Marines.  Every year since the inception of the award, thousands of dollars have been awarded to Ludlow High School Seniors.

Come on, take the challenge, test yourself, honor one of our fallen heroes, and support a great scholarship in the name of a great man.  Take the Sgt. Joshua D. Desforges Walk/Run Challenge!

Event details and schedule

Kid's race starts and race day packet pick-up is at 9:00 AM, as always kids race is free.  Main event starts at 10:30 AM.  Plenty of parking at the Ludlow High School.  Overflow parking will be at Veteran's Park Elementary which is right behind the high school.

The course:  The race starts at the monument built to honor Sgt. Desforges. The route will head up Sgt. Desforges Way and left on Chapin St.  Racers will then take another left onto Sportsmen's Road and proceed to the Ludlow Boys and Girls club.  The race then leaves the roadway and enters to woods where you will be challenged.  The finish line will fittingly be back at the monument behind the Ludlow High School.

The walker’s course is the same as the first portion of the running course. However, it is out to the Ludlow Boys and Girls club and back.

Bring your sense of adventure and honor the son, the man, the hero who “live life full throttle”!
