Description

Don’t miss the third annual Project Prom 5K Run & Walk on Saturday, June 4, 2016. The race course winds through the rolling hills and beautiful woods of Hartwood Acres Park. Proceeds from the event will help less fortunate students attend their prom in style. By putting on your running shoes, you’ll be helping them put on their dancing shoes – as well as gowns, tuxedos, jewelry and more!

From the avid to the casual – run, walk, stroll or roll – there’s something for everyone at the Project Prom 5K Run & Walk:

· 5K Run - Timed - Individual Age group/open

· 5K Team Run - Timed - Individual Age group/open

· 1 Mile Walk - Not Timed - Individual Age group/open

· 1 Mile Team Walk - Not Timed - Individual Age group/open

· Prizes for all individual & team winners

And what would prom be without music, fancy clothes and royalty? A DJ will spin tunes before, during and after the race. Plus, run or walk in a prom gown or tuxedo, and you could be crowned Race King or Race Queen!

Donations of formal attire and gift cards for prom-related services and businesses are welcomed on race day.

About Project Prom

A program of the Allegheny County Department of Human Services, Project Prom provides free formal attire to eligible high school students throughout the county. Some of these young people include those who live in foster homes and homeless shelters, as well as those who receive mental health and intellectual disability services. Children of active duty military personnel and veterans may also participate.

Project Prom for Gentlemen gives eligible young men the opportunity to spend an evening being mentored on the principles of respectful conduct, a lesson that benefits them throughout their lives. Participants also receive a voucher for a free tuxedo rental.

Proceeds from the Project Prom 5K Run & Walk will be used to purchase plus-sized gowns, tuxedo-rental gift certificates and other items. Learn more about Project Prom, including other ways you can contribute.
