All net proceeds from the “Hug An Athlete” 5K will benefit the NASR-Belvidere Park District’s Special Olympics athletes. The funds will be used towards new sports equipment, uniforms, scholarships for athletes in need, and it will help to grow the program to offer more Special Olympics sports.
Currently, NASR-Belvidere Park District “Pirates” athletes have the option to play in 10 different sports: Winter—Aquatics/Snowshoe, Spring—Athletics Track & Field/Bocce, Summer—Bowling /Golf/Softball/Tennis/Volleyball, and Fall—Basketball. Our programs have continued to grow and with your participation in the "Hug An Athlete" 5K we will be able to offer more to our great group of athletes.
Athletes will be throughout the race course providing encouragement and will be giving free hugs at the end of the race to all the race finishers. We hope you mark it on your calendars to join us for this one of a kind 5K!

The race will start on the bike path near the Doty Park Pavilion and continue across the river into the Belvidere Park. Map shown above is an approximate course view of the 5K.
