Our racing mission continues to be to produce affordable, hedonistically fun & athletically competitive races, that are technically sound (correctly-measured courses with minimum turns and visible distance – mile or Km – markers),  that also benefit some charity(-ies) with a populist & gender parity focus – for the average runner/walker (including the novices) and also for the seasoned, serious racer.

“Sexual violence against women isn't “normal.” It's not human nature. Oppression against women—the violence, the objectification, the impoverishment and inequality that women experience—isn't just the way it is [or should be]. It is a function of patriarchy and of institutionalized sexism, of the sexual objectification of women for corporate profit and of a society that tolerates—and often condones—sexual intimidation and violence….We need a Women’s Spring all over the world.” – WORD, 1/18/12

We continue to  be  inundated with news of abuse of women and girls across the world (to wit, an orgy of rapes in India; in Steubenville, OH; a 13-year old girl forced to marry a 71-year old man in Saudi Arabia, etc., etc.).  March 8th is international Women’s Day. In March 2013 there were protest rallies and marches here at home and around the globe to say “Enough to the wanton rape of our mothers & daughters & sisters – here and everywhere on God’s beautiful, female-male encompassing earth.”, to seek an end to the widespread abuse of and violence against women and girls (grandmothers, mothers, daughters, sisters and on and on…), with even cases of misogyny sometimes unleashed on female fellow human beings.  Here in  the Dallas-Fort Worth area in 2013, this race joined that action and promoted that cause. The struggle continues and so the race continues.

Net cash proceeds from the race will benefit WORD (Women Organized to Resist and Defend) [www.DefendWomensRights.org],  We’ll also collect donations of kids’ gifts, toys, stuffed animals, etc. for SafeHaven of Tarrant County [www.safehaventc.org] – for local kids who are victims of domestic violence.

More info  -- including online registration -- is available on the Web at http://www.ASSISTSystemsRacing-plus.com  The race flyer/entry form can be downloaded from this Web site.

There’s a little incline in Mile 1 of the 5K  for character. Then it’s fast and flat as a pancake the rest of the way. The head will sing Hallelujah! The heart will find it Heavenly! The lungs will fall in Love! The feet … ah, the feet…they will Feel & caress &  hug!  ****
