Houtzdale Days 5k Run/Walk and Fireman's Challenge

_ 2016 Houtzdale Days 5k Run/Walk and Fireman's Challenge:

Houtzdale Days 5k Run/Walk and Fireman's Challenge will once again take place during the Houtzdale Days Celebration! The race will be run on Friday, July 22th, 2016 at 7pm. This race starts and ends at the celebration so you and your family can enjoy all the festivities!

The challenging, yet fun, course starts on a hill with a portion run on Rails to Trails. Two water stations will be available for runners and walkers.

Registration fee is $20.00. All proceeds go directly to the Houtzdale Fire Company.

The Fireman's Challenge will follow the same course as the 5k, but participants must wear or carry (but not with the aid of a bag) turnout gear for the entire race. Turnout gear includes boots, hat, pants, and coat. Insulation is not required. The first person to cross the finish line will win $250.00 for the Fire Company or EMS of their choice.

Shirts will only be guaranteed with registrations received by 11:59pm on Sunday, July 10, 2016. I'd like to maximize the donation to the Houtzdale Fire Company and by ordering additional shirts that I can not ensure will be given away will cut into those donations. If you would like a shirt, make sure you get your registration in soon!!

The timing will be through Gingerbreadman Running Company and we will be using RETURNABLE chips. The chips will be available starting at 5pm day of race. Please make sure your chip is returned to the race booth when you finish the race. Someone will be at the finish line to collect, but that can get congested, so please make sure yours was returned.

Because this race is about bringing the community together and supporting those who support us in a time of need, we will be waiting until all racers have crossed the finish line to give out medals. This normally takes place between 8-8:15pm. It would be greatly appreciated that if you win your division you stick around to get your medal and a picture. I know some of us are faster than others, but that does not make those slower any less of a racer than you. Please show your support to those who ran, walked, or crawled the same distance as you.
