Description

2016 River Valley Bank Hope Starts Here Challenge:

The 2016 River Valley Bank Hope Starts Here Challenge is May 7th. Please join us and help us support the cause.

The River Valley Bank Hope Starts Here Challenge raises funds and awareness for the Upper Michigan Brain Tumor Center (UMBTC). The UMBTC is a collaborative effort between UP Health System, Northern Michigan University and the Superior Health Foundation. Its mission is to empower patients and families dealing with brain tumor through advocacy, research, education and treatment.

Below is tentative information for our 2016 event: All competitive events have chip timing.

  1. The competitive half marathon will head south along Lake Superior through town and to the Carp River. After turning around, the course heads north past Lakeview Arena to Presque Isle Park. After running around Presque Isle, the course will head south again to the Pine St. triangle where it will make a right turn on the bike path to return runners to the finish at Lakeview Arena. Overall male and female and age group winner awards will be given.
  2. The competitive duathlon will consist of a 5k run, 10-mile TRAIL bike and 5k run. Both 5k runs are the same as described below. To see the bike course see the map. Awards for top overall individuals and teams and age group winners will be given. Transition and finish are located inside the arena.
  3. The competitive 10K run takes runners out to Lake Shore Blvd. and then heads north to Presque Isle Park. After running around Presque Isle, the course will head south to the Pine St. triangle where it will make a right turn on the bike path to return runners to the finish at Lakeview Arena. Awards for top overall finishers and age group winners will be given.
  4. The competitive 5K run takes runners out to Lake Shore Blvd. and then heads north toward Presque Isle Park. The turnaround is at the Dead River. The course will head south to the Pine St. triangle where it will make a right turn on the bike path to return runners to the finish at Lakeview Arena. Awards for top overall finishers and age group winners will be given.
  5. The non-competitive leisure walk will head west on the sidewalk of Fair Ave. toward NMU. An officer will be available to stop traffic on Presque Isle Ave. and walkers can continue on for a little loop through campus. Great event for families with distance up to each individual participant. You can turn around when you feel comfortable.

GRUB: Complimentary lunch with each paid registration after the events.
