ARE YOU READY to run for the melon? The Run for the Melon 5K and 10K Run / Walk is located on the Otter Trail Scenic Byway in Vining, Minnesota.
The race kicks off the 44th Annual Watermelon Day in Vining, the “Biggest Small Town Celebration in Otter Tail County” Run For The Melon is a USATF certified and sanctioned event. The race course winds through the rural Otter Tail County countryside with hills, lakes, fields of fresh cut alfalfa, and grain fields as its back drop.
The race begins and concludes at the intersection of State Highway 210 and 457th Avenue. The entire course is asphalt. The race is supported by water drink stations throughout the course at the 1.0; 2.5; 5 kilometer markers and at the finish line. Both courses are out and back.
There is ample space for parking and portable toilets are available. At the finish line, the runners and walkers enjoy all the chilled sliced watermelon and water they can eat and drink.

Kids 6 and under may participate FREE but must register.

On-site registration and pickup  begins at 6:30 a.m.

The race begins at 8:00 a.m. on August 20th.

Race cancellation and weather policy:
Events may be delayed, shortened or in rare circumstances cancelled, in the event of inclement weather including lightning, wind, heat, snow, or the threat of imminent severe weather which may harm or injure participants, staff, set up crew and bystanders. Event time frame includes setup, race and teardown. All possible attempts will be made to contact those involved by email, website and social media.  No refunds or transfers allowed.
