Amani Children's Home was launched 3 years ago on the outskirts of Nairobi, Kenya by Alfred and Irene Bahati. Beginning with six children, Amani has grown to house and care for over 100 children with food, education and a loving place to live and grow. Some of the children live full time at the home and some come everyday from the surrounding area for food and education.
All the children that call Amani home have been rescued from heartbreaking situations like abuse, neglect, human trafficking, extreme poverty or parents that have died from AIDS/HIV.
Despite having no running water or power, the directors and teachers of Amani have managed to create a loving oasis for children who have been abandoned, tossed aside and otherwise forgotten. Here, at Amani, these children and others that will come in the future are learning and growing in amazing ways.
Currently, the only source of water comes from a shallow hand dug well that often runs dry forcing Amani to purchase costly water. The Amani Foundation in partnership with Way of Life Community Church is raising funds to supply the children of Amani with a deep-well borehole and powered well head pump. This deep-well will enable the children of Amani to have unlimited access to pure, clean water for drinking, bathing, cooking, washing clothes and irrigation for self sustaining crops. The water will also be used as a commodity to sell with the proceeds helping to support the Amani Children's Home.
