Ulster Project Delaware (UPD): Each year, UPD brings teenagers from Northern
Ireland to a strife-free environment in the Wilmington area to promote long-time peace
between Catholics and Protestants. During the month-long project each July, the teens
and adult leaders live with host families with teens of a similar age. Tolerance and
understanding are fostered, stereotypes are dissolved, and lifetime friendships are
formed. Since 1976, UPD has changed the lives of 800 Catholic and protestant teens
and 156 adult leaders from Northern Ireland and their American families.
