EVO 5K Fit CHALLENGE

August 20, 2016 ~ 8:00am
Birmingham, AL
Sloss Furnaces

What makes this 5K different? Unlike previous 5K’s held in Birmingham, The EVO 5K Fit Challenge event includes race waves with exercise challenges throughout its course. Exercise stations (such as jump ropes, tire runs, walking lunges, etc.) represent the fitness challenges. The event will consist of a standard 5K run that begins at 8:00 a.m. followed by waves that will include Fit Challenges throughout the course. The first wave starts at 9:00am with a wave starting every 30 minutes. The Kid’s Fun Zone will be located in Linn Park where there will be a fitness obstacle course and games for the kids . We are excited to announce that Fox 6 Sports Anchor and Reporter, Jeh Jeh Pruitt, will be the MC for the event.

Race Benefits:
Children’s of Alabama

About 1,500 children with cancer or blood disorders are hospitalized each year at Children’s of Alabama, one of the nation’s largest and busiest pediatric medical centers. Each year about 150 Alabama children are diagnosed with cancer. The diagnoses include leukemia, lymphoma, brain and spinal cord tumors, solid tumors of muscle and bone, kidney and liver tumors, and rare childhood cancers. The Alabama Center for Childhood Cancer and Blood Disorders is actively working toward the goal of a total cure through research and development of innovative therapies. Lessening the risks of treatment, including improved blood and marrow transplantation techniques, new ways to treat brain and spinal cord tumors that result in minimal or no damage to a child’s growing nervous system, and return to normal activities after all treatments are goals as well.
